Localization of hydrogen production and transport technology in Algeria investment opportunities and challenges
Keywords:

This research study examines the significance of localizing hydrogen production and transportation technologies in Algeria to achieve carbon neutrality and global climate objectives, particularly in light of Algeria's substantial solar and wind energy resources for electricity generation and clean hydrogen production. Algeria has a strategic position connecting Africa and Europe, complemented by a network of gas pipelines crossing state boundaries, which are essential for hydrogen supply and international trade. However, challenges remain in localization owing to the absence of a clear vision for a developed market for hydrogen and its compounds. Despite this, Algeria has established a national policy for hydrogen development. The study concluded that it is imperative to improve long-term foreign investment strategies, seek new alliances and partnerships to increase market liquidity and enable the transfer of technological knowledge and expertise, integrate hydrogen into investment projects in all sectors, and preparing society for the transition to clean energy.
