Abstract

Character development that starts at an early age is a critical component in creating the foundation of high-quality education. This research is an integrative literature review that explores various sources and studies related to character building in children. The results show that effective character education includes values such as integrity, empathy, respect and responsibility. The review also found that involving family, school and community in character education is a holistic approach and has a significant impact on children's social and emotional development. Thus, the integration of character education into the curriculum from an early age can facilitate the formation of positive behaviours, which in turn, prepares children for future academic and social success. This study recommends specific frameworks and pedagogies for the effective integration of character values in early childhood education as a step towards achieving quality education.
