Second-generation reforms as a mechanism for establishing values of citizenship and democracy and enhancing educational policy in Algeria
An analytical study of the civil education textbook for fifth-grade primary

This research paper discusses a sensitive topic within Algeria’s educational system: the reform process aimed at addressing the various shortcomings and obstacles faced by the education sector. This sector is considered essential for the cognitive and moral development of individuals. The importance of this topic is evident in the state’s efforts to establish a comprehensive scientific system that contributes to the education and qualification of young people. The paper also highlights key initiatives undertaken by the Algerian state to equip students with educational competencies, instil values of citizenship and belonging, and reinforce democratic principles. The study analyses the content of the civic education textbook for Year 5 primary school students, attempting to understand the educational values and scientific foundations included in the book that enhance students’ capabilities and solidify their sense of national identity.
