Diversification of the energy matrix in Ecuador incorporating other renewable energy sources
Keywords:

Ecuador, today, faces the challenge of diversifying its energy sources to satisfy growing local demand and mitigate the effects of climate change. Currently, the region depends mainly on the supply of the National Interconnected System, whose energy matrix has a strong dependence on hydroelectricity, which generates vulnerability to phenomena such as prolonged droughts. The integration of renewable energies, such as solar, wind and biomass, represents an opportunity to move towards a more stable, autonomous and sustainable energy system. The objective was to analyze how Portoviejo can incorporate renewable energies into its energy matrix, evaluating the economic advantages, social and environmental, as well as identifying specific barriers and opportunities in the region, the bibliographic review was used as a methodology, the results were that there are obstacles to diversifying the energy matrix, the most relevant being limited financing, the lack of infrastructure and the absence of specific regulations to encourage clean energies.
